Questi misteriosi personaggi venuti da Oriente, dopo aver incontrato il «Dio fatto uomo» e averlo adorato, ripartono dalla grotta per ritornare ai loro paesi. Erano arrivati spinti dalla curiosità e ora partono appagati e con la gioia nel cuore, soddisfatti di aver trovato quel «tesoro» che, come una gigantesca calamita dell’amore, li aveva attirati e guidati disegnando con un raggio di luce il sentiero verso Betlemme.
La carovana di quei cercatori di Dio riprende il cammino e i loro piedi non sentono più la fatica, sono leggeri come i passi di un innamorato, hanno nell’anima la gioia di una buona notizia da regalare e un’energia di fede che solo chi crede esperimenta nella sua vita.
La vita di fede non è vissuta in una conchiglia, ma in una piazza aperta all’incontro, al confronto, al dialogo, percorsi di vita intrecciati con gli avvenimenti del vivere quotidiano.
Mi piace ricordare una suggestiva espressione di Ermanno Olmi, il regista del film «L’albero degli zoccoli», il quale, rilasciando un'intervista, diceva: «Ogni mattina quando mi allaccio le scarpe mi domando: “Oggi dove mi porteranno i miei piedi?”».
Gli appassionati cercatori del «Dio della vita» a ogni alba, «nell’allacciarsi le scarpe» dalla loro coscienza si sentono ripetere: «Percorri con responsabilità il fantastico triangolo della vita: cammina sul sentiero di Dio, percorri i misteriosi tornanti della tua anima e ti troverai all’incrocio delle strade del prossimo».
Le feste natalizie, di là della cornice di allegria e dei regali, nascondono sempre «il dito di Dio che viene a toccare l’anima per ricordarle che ha un Padre lassù».
Elemento essenziale per avvertire questa carezza di Dio è conservare la capacità di stupirsi per il bene che nasce in noi, stupirsi della mano di Dio che ci fa crescere in bontà. San Luigi Guanella non si stupiva delle case della carità che crescevano attorno a lui, ma si stupiva della potenza di Dio a favore dei poveri e lo faceva esclamare: «Io sono un manovale, ma è Dio che fa».
Nella regione francese della Provenza il presepe ospita sempre una statuina di un giovane che si avvia alla grotta a mani vuote, i suoi occhi riflettono meraviglia e il suo viso esprime stupore nel vedere tanta gioia attorno a questo bambino, il figlio di Dio che condivide la nostra natura umana. Gesù si fa ospite delle nostre case, l’immortale si fa viandante nelle nostre strade, alba di una vita senza limiti, amore totale, libertà senza confini, il segno certo di una pace possibile, verità nelle pieghe dell’errore, perdono sulle macerie del peccato.
Il Natale ci trovi pieni di stupore come Maria nell’abbracciare la sua creatura e Giuseppe nel vedere tanto clamore attorno all’Emmanuele, il Dio con noi.

Da sempre, e soprattutto oggi, il Natale di Gesù è l’invito alla scoperta del Dio vicino. Un giorno ha detto agli apostoli: «Io sono con voi sino alla fine dei secoli». Gesù è il nostro contemporaneo e, quando ha parlato della fede, l’ha paragonata a un tesoro nascosto e ad un uomo che trovatolo investe in esso tutto quello che possiede.
Il tesoro di cui parlava Gesù non era il diamante d’inestimabile valore, ma il tesoro della fede, in cui Dio Amore regala il senso dell’esistenza, il timone che mantiene la rotta verso la meta della santità.
Da Betlemme parte l’avventura di Dio che si fa vicino a ogni persona e non ci fa sentire orfani.
Come San Giuseppe ha stretto tra le braccia Gesù, così Dio ci prende nelle sue braccia, ci solleva sino a guardarci negli occhi e ci ripete: «Non avere paura del futuro, ti sto accanto per aiutarti a vivere in pienezza la tua esistenza». Abbiamo bisogno di amore ed è questo respiro dell'amore a spingerci a ricercare il volto di Dio che, a Natale, si nasconde nelle sembianze di un bambino.
Il racconto evangelico di quell’evento singolare registra la presenza dei pastori, di umili personaggi del luogo, ma anche dei modelli dei cercatori di Dio: i Magi.
